GET THERE EARLY FOR BEST SEATS
HERE'S a friendly warning for Hawke's Bay Speedway Club fans. If you want the best seats at Meeanee Speedway for Saturday night's HRPP Fireworks Spectacular Meeting get there early to avoid disappointment. This has been the norm for the past three decades and don't expect a change this weekend. Gates for the public open at 4.30pm and racing begins at 6.30pm. Previous experience suggests fans should be arriving by 5.30pm at the latest to secure their preferred seats.
The fireworks have been scheduled for 8.30pm and racing will continue after the display. This approach will make it a little easier on the venue neighbours and also on families with young children who might find it a bit hard to stay at the track until the end of racing.
Fans also need to be reminded that the Hawke's Bay Super Saloon Championship which was originally scheduled for Saturday night has been postponed until December 16. However there will be no shortage of action on the track before and after the fireworks display.
Don't be surprised if the 32-strong Stockcar class provides the best racing action. This class will feature two teams races between the Meeanee Maulers and Orange Roughies. Cameron Swift will captain the Maulers team which also includes Cam Taylor, Jordan Adie, current Hawke's Bay champion Willy Stevenson and Ethan Anderson. Hawke's Bay's "Mr Speedway" Mike McLachlan will spearhead the Roughies team. He will be joined by Jemma Holloway, Ethan Cross, Ethyn McLachlan and Gibson Tout.
More than 25 Hawke's Bay Superstock class drivers will take to the track. The top performer from the Grand Opening meeting, Quinn Ryan will be among them as will Zach Lawrence in his first outing of the season on home turf.
More than 20 TQ drivers are expected including Rotorua's 3NZ Terence Dorrell. Hawke's Bay rookies, Ben Donovan and Sam Warner, who both rolled at the Grand Opening will be back.
Five Hawke's Bay Super Saloon drivers, two-time national champion Steve Flynn, brother Grant Flynn, Jeremy Browne, Kevin Martin and Jason Long should produce some entertaining racing.
More than 30 Hawke's Bay Ministock class drivers will have their first outing of the season.
CATCH YA on Saturday night.
